STEVEN Salopek has been released to the Magpies in the SANFL after Port Adelaide and Glenelg eventually reached an amicable agreement on a transfer fee today.

Salopek, who has played 121 games for the Power, was recruited as a first round selection in the 2002 AFL National Draft after which he was secured by Glenelg in the SANFL mini-draft.

Magpies General Manager, Brian Leys, says he is delighted to have Salopek join Port Adelaide’s SANFL team.

“We’re very excited to have Steven as part of our side and we believe he has a lot to offer,” Leys said.

“Steven is a player that has been in the AFL system for several years now and he brings a lot of experience and exceptional skills to our group which we certainly believe will enhance our midfield.

“Most significantly, he’s a quality person and we know he’ll fit into our group very well.”

Power General Manager - Football, Peter Rohde, says he is now looking forward to Salopek kick starting his football career with the Magpies in the SANFL.

“We’re disappointed that it took so long to resolve but we’re now looking forward to Steven being able to play some senior football at the Magpies so that he can get his career up and going again,” Rohde said.

Salopek will be selected for the Magpies in this Saturday’s Foxtel Cup clash against Morningside at AAMI Stadium and will then be available for selection the following week in the Magpies’ Round 11 SANFL game versus South Adelaide at Alberton.
