Port Adelaide’s all-round team performance against the Eagles on Saturday was reinforced statistically, with five players amassing 18 disposals to be joint leaders for the Power.

Troy Chaplin, Ben Jacobs, John McCarthy, Darren Pfeiffer and Steven Salopek all had 18 disposals, with Daniel Stewart (17), Tom Logan (15) and Hamish Hartlett (15) not far behind as the Power rotated numbers through the midfield on a hot afternoon in Western Australia.

One area many expected the Power to struggle in was the ruck, but Jarrad Redden had other ideas.

In just his first full game for the black, white and teal, he had a massive 25 hitouts up against one of the league’s best, Dean Cox, who had just 13.

Perhaps just as impressive were Redden’s 8 contested possessions, 5 clearances (equal game high with Cox) and 6 tackles.

Redden’s backup in the ruck - Daniel Stewart - was also influential, plucking 7 marks to go with his 5 hitouts, 9 contested possessions (team high), 3 clearances and 4 inside 50s.

John Butcher was remarkably effective with his 5 kicks, booting 5 majors despite being subbed off at three-quarter time in another eye-catching display.

Fellow key forward Justin Westhoff was a focal point in the absence of Jay Schulz, pushing the Power inside 50 6 times.

The twin towers down back, Alipate Carlile (6 rebound 50s) and Troy Chaplin (4), rebounded wave after wave of West Coast attack, with both players doing the team things to help keep the Power in the game, Carlile with 7 1%ers and Chaplin 5. Chaplin was the only player on either team to play the full game.

Skipper for the night Hamish Hartlett was quiet by his usually high standards, but still managed 13 possessions, 3 clearances, 4 inside 50s, 3 rebound 50s and 4 tackles, showing that he covered plenty of the ground at Rushton Park.

Ben Newton, playing just his first game in Power colours, made a big impact late, racking up 5 possessions in less than a quarter of playing time.

For the Dream Team fans, John McCarthy led the way for Port Adelaide with 99 points, with Jarrad Redden catching the eye of many coaches with his 84 points.
