Adam Cockshell’s dominant performance for the Redlegs on Saturday has won him the Power’s SANFL Player of the Week award for Round 10.

Cockshell, who played the first two games of the 2007 season for the Power, has been finding his feet playing in the ruck for Norwood, a new position for the 21 year-old.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Daniel Healy and Darren Trevena, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.

It was a good round for Power players in the SANFL, with the likes of Lower, Thomas, Thomson and Thomas all playing well. Here is the complete wrap-up…

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v Eagles at Woodville)
Probably his best game for the year. Played up forward and in the ruck and had a big impact on the game. He was very lively, he presented well, took some marks and then worked back when he was playing in the ruck taking some good intercept marks. Used the ball well and linked up well. Overall, a really good game from Adam and of a standard that we expect from him week in, week out. He’s worked very hard on the track so it was great for him to win the player of the week award. Adam finished with 14 kicks, 10 marks, 10 handballs and 20 hit-outs.

Matt Thomas (for Norwood v Eagles at Woodville)Matty was good after his return from a long lay-off with injury. He worked extremely hard and laid 9 tackles. His one-percenters were certainly there and he picked up 17 possessions. He probably needs a few more possessions but he’ll get better and better each week.

Nick Lower (for Norwood v Eagles at Woodville)Nick was very good again on the ball and on the wing. Read the play nicely, linked up well and used the ball very well. He had 15 kicks, 6 marks, 14 handballs and 1 goal. He’ll be pushing for selection after three solid games for Norwood. He’s really developed his game this year.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Norwood at Woodville)Not as good as Nick has been. He tried to get in to the game but struggled a little bit. When he does get the ball he does something special with it, so he just needs to get a bit more of the ball. He had 13 kicks, 5 handballs, 3 marks and 3 behinds – two of which should have been goals. Not as much of an influence as he has had in the past, but when he does get it, he’s very effective, especially going inside 50.

Marlon Motlop (for North v Sturt at Unley)Marlon had a quieter day this week playing up forward and didn’t have much of an impact. Having said that his team didn’t have a great day so there wasn’t much supply. He moved to half back in the second half and ran and created a bit, ending up with 7 kicks, 3 handballs and 3 tackles. A tough day for a second gamer with his side getting beaten by 100 points.

Damon White (for North v Sturt at Unley)Played on Ian Perrie at centre half back for North. Did a good job limiting his influence. Perrie ended up with one goal, which was a good effort from Damon given Sturt kicked over 20 goals. He won a lot of one-on-one contests which was positive for Whitey.

Nathan Lonie (for North v Sturt at Unley)Had a great first quarter with 9 touches but fell away as the game went on, as his side struggled. He kicked a great running goal and worked extremely hard, running 15 kilometres with 71 sprints.

Greg Bentley (for Sturt v North at Unley)Greg played on half forward and a bit up the ground in a solid game, without being outstanding. He had 19 possessions but Greg would hope to dominate the game a bit more than that being such a quality player.

Fabian Deluca (for Sturt v North at Unley)A terrific effort from Fabian. He was dominant in the centre square and gave Sturt plenty of clearance opportunities. He had 12 possessions and 29 hit-outs. He hunted the ball well and had touches around the ground. A really good game by Fabian.

Adam Thomson (for Sturt v North at Unley)Adam had a really good first half with 15 possessions and 4 goals at half time. He ran hard out of the stoppages and was very creative. He got tagged in the second half which negated his influence but the damage was already done. He finished with 21 touches.

Jacob Surjan (for Port v Glenelg at Glenelg)It was pleasing that he went back to the SANFL with the right attitude and handled himself very well. Surj showed an excellent work rate and got plenty of possessions playing on the ball. He carried the ball well and had some great spoils. He did everything right and he’ll be pushing for selection again this week as well.

Jonathon Giles (for Central v South at Elizabeth) – Gilesy was much better this week rucking against a state ruckman. He was really competitive, he fought for front spot, he hunted the ball and looked dangerous around the ground. His teammates and coach were really pleased with him. He had 15 disposals, 6 marks and 1.1 to go with 17 hit-outs. He’s doing a lot of extra work and that is starting to pay dividends.

Ryan Williams pulled out of the Bulldogs team on Friday night with hamstring tightness. Central District have the bye this week, but Ryan should be fine to play next week.

Gavin Grose (for North reserves v Sturt reserves at Unley) – He played at centre half back and in the back pocket. Gav had 24 possessions and 10 marks but made a couple of uncharacteristic kicking errors. He spoilt well and ran off well in a solid game.
