NICK Salter has continued his brilliant start to the season, booting seven goals in a losing side to win the Round 5 SANFL Power Player of the Week Award.

Salter, who now sits atop the SANFL goal kicking table with 18, didn’t need too many opportunities to kick his bag and impressed the development coaches with his defensive pressure, which lead to a couple of his goals.

The award is judged by Power development coaches Garry Hocking and Darren Trevena and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

Jackson Trengove’s return to the SANFL was impressive while Jay Nash continued his good start to the season across half back for Central. The full wrap is below.

SANFL Player of the Week
Nick Salter (for Eagles v South @ Noarlunga) - A big day for Nick, booting seven goals all in the first three quarters. A great return in a losing side, showing real class and determination in hunting the footy. It was a good balance of goals for Salts, getting a few on the lead-up and a few as the result of some great defensive pressure. Finished the day with 11 kicks, 3 handballs and 4 marks.

Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v South @ Noarlunga) - Broady had 8 kicks, 14 handballs, 5 marks, 3 tackles, 4 inside 50s and a goal. His role changed from last week, doing a lot more work in between the arcs. He was involved all day in rebounding from defence and showed some great decision making and clean hands when going forward. He’ll be pressing for selection.

Mitch Banner (for Eagles v South @ Noarlunga) - Was effective around the packs and despite a couple of errors had a pretty good day. Finished with 16 kicks, 5 handballs, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 3 clearances, 3 inside 50s and a goal. A workmanlike performance.

Jay Nash (for Central v Sturt @ Elizabeth) - Nashy had a good day on the half back flank and used the ball really well. He had 14 kicks, 4 marks, 4 handballs, 3 tackles and 2 behinds and had a few courageous spoils. With performances like this he’ll be putting some real pressure on the AFL side.

Jackson Trengove (for Port v Norwood @ the Parade) - A solid day for Jacko. Started well on Taylor Walker before being moved into the ruck because of an injury to Port’s first string ruckman. He jumped in well, worked hard and showed great spirit in trying to get the Magpies back into the game. Finished with 9 kicks, 11 handballs, 5 marks, 3 clearances and 24 hitouts.

Andrew Moore (for North v Glenelg @ Prospect) - Had a tough start to the day but shut Tenace down well after that. Had 11 possessions, 3 marks and 3 tackles and will be looking to build on that in Round 6.

Daniel Stewart (for North v Glenelg @ Prospect) - The Bays started well and the ball didn’t really come forward too much early for North. Worked his way into the game and formed a good partnership with Alleway. Had a great attitude coming back to the SANFL and really hit the packs hard to create the spillage for North’s small forwards. It was a good effort in tough conditions. Finished with 7 possessions, 6 marks, 3 tackles and 2.2.

Wade Thompson (for North reserves v Glenelg reserves @ Prospect) - Not a big possession game from Wade but he had a big impact with his defensive pressure, applying 8 tackles. Still showed signs of his electrifying speed and kicked a nice left foot snap goal. It was pleasing to see him still have an impact even when he’s not necessarily getting too many kicks.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v South reserves @ Noarlunga) - Played in the ruck and at full forward. He started strongly giving his mids first use of the ball and working hard around the ground to help his teammates out. He tired late and moved forward, getting to plenty of marking contests but not taking as many grabs as we’d have liked. A good day overall.

Glenn Dawson (for Eagles reserves v South reserves @ Noarlunga) - Played mainly at full forward and had 9 kicks, 3 marks, 3 tackles and 3.1. He has a good influence when the ball was in his area, either marking it or applying defensive pressure, but he needs to keep working on his positioning and effort when the ball is not in his vicinity. Good to see his work finished off with some accurate kicking.

Jordan Johns (for South reserves v Eagles reserves @ Noarlunga) - After two very good games he had a bit of a dip in form this week playing on a half back flank. Looked a little bit lost at times and just needs to re-adjust his mind set to get back to his previous form.
