Nathan Lonie put in another hard-running display for North Adelaide to win the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week award for Round 12.

Lonie had a massive 35 possessions in North’s crushing 47-point win over South at Prospect, to further push his case for selection in the Power side.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Daniel Healy and Darren Trevena, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.

It was another busy round for Power players in the SANFL, with 16 players in action for local clubs…

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Nathan Lonie (for North v South at Prospect)He brought his own footy on Saturday! He had 23 possessions at half time and ended up with 35 (17 kicks and 18 handballs) and did as he pleased taking the ball inside 50 seven times. He had a number of chases and three smothers as well, so his defensive pressure is certainly there. He did it all in a good effort.

Damon White (for North v South at Prospect)Damon played at centre-half back on Dale Ellis and backed up his great game last week with another 28 possessions and 7 spoils. He gave plenty of rebound and also beat his man when he needed to. A great all round effort.

Jonathon Giles (for Central v Glenelg at Elizabeth)Gilesy had a sound game in the ruck, but Glenelg really dominated clearances and even sharked Gilesy’s taps, which wasn’t really his fault. He took two very nice contested marks in defence and his intensity was good. 9 possessions and 19 hit-outs.

Justin Westhoff (for Central v Glenelg at Elizabeth)Westy went back and did some impressive things, taking three good contested marks and kicking 3.1. He had 15 possessions as well as 7 tackles and a number of chases to create some good defensive pressure in the Bulldogs’ forward line.

Ryan Williams (for Central v Glenelg at Elizabeth)Was given the big job on McConnell for Glenelg – a goal sneak – but unfortunately he hurt his knee early in the game. The incident looked quite serious but to his credit he went back on and did well in the midfield and across half back with 15 possessions.

Mitch Farmer (for Sturt v Eagles at Woodville)Mitch backed last week’s effort up with another good game. He had 16 kicks, 6 marks and 6 handballs. He chased and tackled well and provided a lot of run from the backline. He’s just going to keep developing the more footy he plays. Mitch also got play of the week for a repeat tackling effort where he laid 3 tackles in one play phase.

Greg Bentley (for Sturt v Eagles at Woodville)Bents was very good again. He ran hard all day and was clean and tough over the ball. He played a strong bodied game with 8 tackles and 26 possessions.

Fabian Deluca (for Sturt v Eagles at Woodville)Fabian played the whole game because Feast got injured early in the game. It was a fantastic effort by Fab and he had 36 hit-outs and did some good things around the ground, with 8 marks, 5 kicks and 8 handballs. It was really good for him to raise the bar the way he did.

Adam Thomson (for Sturt v Eagles at Woodville)Played half forward and on the ball. Worked hard around the stoppages and won a number of clearances. He ran forward and kicked 3 goals to go with his 11 kicks, 8 marks and 11 handballs. He’s putting his name up for selection again.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Sturt at Woodville)Not his best game. Tried hard but it just wasn’t his day as the Eagles were getting beaten comfortably. We see better games in the future from him if he keeps persisting.

Jacob Surjan (for Port v West at Richmond)He was good again at the weekend. He had some great desperate efforts in the second half and ended up with 29 possessions. A solid game all round.

Nathan Krakouer (for Port v West at Richmond)Krak started out of the goal square, which isn’t ideal. He went onto the wing and although he didn’t have a big game, he had 10 chases and that shows he’s keen to impress.

Ryan Willits (for West v Port at Richmond)Not a big day out. Kicked 1.1 with a couple of courageous marks but not a huge game ovearall. Just needs to keep working hard and the results will come.

Marlon Motlop (for North reserves v South reserves at Prospect)Marlon played some good footy. He started a bit slow and then built up into the game. He ended up with 10 kicks, 4 marks, 12 handballs and 1 goal. He worked his way into the game and got some clearances and did a couple of special things during the game. He had a centre clearance where he took on an opponent with a good dummy and ran on to kick the goal. Hopefully he keeps that form up and he gets another go at league level.

Gavin Grose (for North reserves v South reserves at Prospect)Played the first half down back and then moved forward for the second half and kicked three goals. He led and presented well and had 7 kicks, 7 marks and 5 handballs.

Daniel Boyle (for Central reserves v Glenelg reserves at Elizabeth)Boyley made a welcome return to action at the weekend. He started well and used his beautiful kicking skills to the Bulldogs’ advantage. He also ran and took them on well – he had 8 bounces for the game – with 16 possessions. He’ll be much better for the run.
