IT was a busy weekend of SANFL trial games, with several Power-listed players impressing for their local clubs.

Marlon Motlop, Mitch Banner and Chad Cornes have all spent considerable time during the NAB Cup and NAB Challenge in a Power guernsey and put their hand up to push for selection once again with impressive performances.

The games were watched closely by returning development manager Daniel Healy and new development coach Matthew Nicks. Their full report is below.

Marlon Motlop (North Adelaide internal trial) - had a very good game playing wing, half forward and on the ball. Played about 70 minutes and managed 17 possessions and two goals. Good to see him continue on his impressive pre-season.

Aaron Young (North Adelaide internal trial) - played his first game for the Roosters at half back and did some really good competitive stuff. North were really impressed with the way he played which was pleasing for us

Callum Hay (North Adelaide internal trial) - played on the wing and across half back and provided some really good rebound from defence. Worked hard for handball receives and kicked the ball well

John Butcher (for Port v Eagles @ Alberton)
- much improved effort from Butch, getting to a lot of marking contests and being competitive in the air and on the ground. Applied very good defensive pressure in the first half and was named in the Magpies’ best

Jacob Surjan (for Port v Eagles @ Alberton) - first game back from injury and he fitted in well. Found a bit of his own ball and rebounded well from the backline. Got through the game unscathed, which for us was the most important thing

Mitch Banner (for Port v Eagles @ Alberton)
- a really good game from Mitch, racking up 20 possessions and booting 3.3. Still working on the defensive side to his game, but another good game for his new club - in this case against his old club

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Port @ Alberton)
- started up forward and was very quiet but was moved back in the second half where he had a real impact. Typically used the ball well by foot

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles v Port @ Alberton) - after an impressive pre-season in which he pulled the Power guernsey on for the first time, Jarrad had a bit of a quiet game at the weekend. His pressure was down but he’ll work hard to turn that around

Chad Cornes (for Glenelg v Norwood @ the Parade) - Chad played deep forward and had a good day out, booting 6.0 and having a hand in two others. Moved up the ground and played a bit on the ball too. Marked the ball well on the lead and in contests. Responded very well to his non-selection in the NAB Challenge squad, which is exactly what we’d expect for a professional like Chad

Danny Meyer (for Glenelg v Norwood @ the Parade) - started well but then got a corky, limiting his game time

Mitch Curnow (for Sturt reserves v Central @ Elizabeth)
- Mitch did some really good ruck work and pleasingly for us, was also able to have an influence floating back in defence, taking some marks and crashing some packs, which is something we’ve been working with him on

Matt Westhoff (for Central v Sturt @ Elizabeth)
- looked sharp in the league side, moving well and taking contested marks, which is an area he’s needed to improve. Playing injury-free has really helped. Showed good signs playing as a forward and kicking 1.2
