THERE will be no guarantees for any of the hopeful recruits joining the Port Adelaide squad in pre-season training according to senior coach Ken Hinkley.

Hinkley quashed speculation surrounding the futures of former Melbourne player Liam Jurrah and Essendon midfielder Brent Prismall being at Port Adelaide.

The pair forms part of an nine-man list granted permission to train with Port Adelaide ahead of December’s pre-season and rookie drafts.

Included on that list is Port Adelaide SANFL players Justin Hoskin, Kory Beard, Aseri Raikiwasa, Sam Gray and Sean Lemmens, 2012 SANFL premiership star Jaryd Cachia and U18 All-Australian player Sam Colquhoun.

Hinkley says despite the AFL experience of Jurrah and Prismall, all candidates would need to train at the standard of the main Power group to be considered by club recruiters.

“That would be foolish [guaranteeing contracts], we’ve got eight to ten blokes coming out here to train,” said Hinkley.

“We’ll make some decisions as we have to with the way the system works as quickly as we can.

"But there’s no guarantees.”

Following the coup draft recruiting of Oliver Wines with pick seven in addition to Tom Clurey and Mason Shaw, Hinkley is looking forward to the opportunity to topping up a list growing in talent.

“We’re excited to be honest,” said Hinkley.

“It’s easy for me to say because we’ve just gone through the draft and got those three boys in and we’ve got an opportunity to bring some more in.

“The point people have perhaps missed a little bit is that there’s some really exciting young players at this club.”
