SEVEN goals is a career-high for Port Adelaide's Jay Schulz but he was busy playing it down after the match, indicating that Port's season hanging in the balance was far more important than his personal achievement.

The Power lost by six goals, but the former Tiger was unstoppable up forward, kicking 7.1 - with the behind hitting the post - from 11 kicks and nine marks.

But the forward was more interested in talking about the bigger picture.

"It's never great losing and even when you play well, it hurts," he said after the match.

"I mean, we've lost six in a row now and our season's really, really in the balance.

"We're trying to stay positive and we're trying really hard - I don't think anyone questions our effort, we're just missing a couple of key players and our skills a little bit. Hopefully we can turn that around in the next couple of weeks."

Schulz's previous best haul of six goals was in the yellow and black against the Lions in 2004. But the new career-high mark was not exciting his interest after the match.

"It's just one of those things - it was my turn today, and next week it'll probably be someone else's turn," he said.

"I was lucky enough to be on the end of a couple - when there's days like this you can't really explain them.

"The boys really tried to help me out today - they blocked for me and all that kind of thing."

The 25-year-old said one of the major problems facing the side was its rate of turnovers.

"When we don't turn over the footy we look like a really dangerous side, so we'll just keep working on our skills, and a couple of little things with our gameplan.

"All we can do is stay positive and train hard and come out and try as hard as we've been trying, and fix a few things."
