THIS week, only eight Power players took part in the SANFL, with the Eagles having the bye and both Josh Carr and Danny Meyer not lining up for Glenelg.
No player really stood out to achieve a high enough four-quarter standard to earn a nomination for the SANFL Player of the Week honours
There were several good passages of play from some players, but hopefully next week will see a greater four quarter effort to earn the accolade bestowed upon the best Power player in the SANFL each week.
Instead, here’s a rundown of each player’s performance in the SANFL:
Daniel Webb (For Bloods vs Bulldogs @ City Mazda Stadium)
Daniel played both ruck and forward this week in the seniors, and showed some progress at the centre square stoppages where he used his high leap to advantage. At this stage in his development he is quite lightly framed, but as he adds bulk to his frame his agility will hold him in good stead. He had 5 kicks, 8 handballs, 3 marks, and 10 hit-outs.
Cameron Cloke (For Magpies vs Panthers @ Hickinbotham Oval)
Cam worked quite hard from deep forward to the 50m arc when he was playing deep with speed and good purpose, and would perhaps have benefited from quicker delivery towards him. He looked to keep the ball inside his 50 by laying 5 tackles to accompany his 9 kicks, 6 marks, and 8 hit-outs.
Jasper Pittard (Four Double Blues reserves vs Redlegs @ House Brothers Oval)
Jasper started the game really well, and in the opening quarter he had lots of energy and run, linking up well through the midfield with his precise kicking important. He displayed good vision to bring the ball through the central corridor. In the second half he spent more time on the bench, but this was a solid display as he finds his feet again after injury.
Justin Westhoff (For Bulldogs vs. Bloods @ City Mazda Stadium)
Justin again showed that he’s prepared to work hard all day, presenting well when played forward and then running back into the forward structure from the wing. He had a good second quarter, which included a good mark and goal. Increased defensive pressure will help him earn his spot back for the Power.
Scott Harding (For Bloods reserves vs. Bulldogs @ City Mazda Stadium)
After playing as a guest player for Central District last week, Scott found himself lining up against his teammates from last week. He had a solid game, getting a mixture of disposals with strong work at stoppages but also linking up by hand. He worked hard around the ground, pushing into defence when required.
Matthew Westhoff (For Bulldogs reserves vs. Bloods @ City Mazda Stadium)
Playing forward all day, Matt managed to break away from his opponent on the lead quite well. He needs to keen working hard back to the contest after leading, and keep up the forward pressure through chasing and tackling.
Wade Thompson (For Roosters vs. Tigers @ Gilderol Stadium)
Wade had a quite day bar 1 nice goal, and he needs to keep working to involve himself in the play, keep presenting and when he’s not used to push back to the contest in order to get his hands on the ball and use his pace to break away from his opponent.
Daniel Bass (For Panthers reserves vs. Magpies @ Noarlunga)
Playing mainly forward and changing in the ruck at times, Daniel’s ruck work shows real progress for a player playing his first season of competitive football. Most of his hits when to his teammates, and he needs to ensure that he keeps working when not directly involved in the contest to run to the right position. Mostly, he just needs to keep playing as he hunted the ball well at times and shows real desire for the contest.
