Power not moving to Tassie: CEO
Port Adelaide CEO says a report linking the side with a move to Tasmania is 'madness'
“It’s not happening - end of story,” Haysman said.
Adelaide’s Radio 5aa on Monday suggested the option could be raised in a Federal Senate Inquiry to be held in the coming weeks, on the issue of raising an AFL team in Tasmania.
The radio station said the Inquiry would hear three proposals; one for creating a new Tasmanian team, one for relocating a Victorian team and another on relocating the Power to the Apple Isle.
Haysman laughed of the suggestions of a potential move to Tassie and said the club wouldn’t entertain any discussions on the matter.
“Other than you mentioning it on radio and Triggy (Adelaide CEO Steven Trigg) ringing me then to see if I wanted a lift to Outer Harbour to send us on our way, no, I haven’t had any discussion or heard any word on it,” Haysman said on Radio 5aa.
“The AFL’s position is clear. They want two teams in South Australia and 22 games here. It’s not even on their radar. We’re in the process of engaging our heartland supporters and looking after them. I can tell you there has certainly been no discussion about us moving away from Alberton.
“It’s not happening - end of story.
"This is where our heart and soul is and we’re not about to leave.”
Haysman also denied that a potential relocation, which would incorporate significant financial incentives, would be an answer to the club’s current, economic woes.
“We’d consider all sensible options to fix up where we’re at as a business,” he said.
“We’re fully aware of the key opportunities for us, as are the SANFL and AFL, around fixing up our stadium deals and so on. There are a number of things we are doing and will keep working to get that sorted out."
