The SANFL returned to a full fixture this wek after a split round for Round 18, and the Power had a total of 13 players performing at local level. Two players booted bags of 5 goals this week, while a number of players continued to regain form and fitness after long lay-offs with injury.

SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Webb (for Bloods reserves v Tigers) - Webby had a fantastic game, playing 90% of his time in the forward line. Three of his goals came directly from contested grabs, but one ripper came from a big tackle inside 50. He played a much tougher game than in weeks gone by, dominating the forward line with his aerial marking skills. He had 10 kicks, 6 marks, 5 tackles, 5 hit-outs and booted 5 goals 2 in a terrific display.

Jason Davenport (for Bloods v Tigers) - In a display of respect from his opposition, Dav was stood by the Glenelg captain, so the pressure was on for him to to play well against their leader. He did a good job, and was his usual tricky self, leading well and trying to be regularly involved in the play. The defensive side of his game was good - with one great chase down tackle resulting in a goal. He needs to keep playing like this to get back into the AFL. He had 7 kicks, 7 handballs, 6 marks, 4 tackles and booted 3 goals 2.

Cam Cloke (for Magpies v Eagles) - Cam played both ruck and forward, and unfortunately he hurt his groin in the first quarter. He was able to keep playing, leading well when up forward, and working hard to apply pressure. He had 7 kicks, 4 marks, 1 tackle, 13 hit-outs, and kicked a goal.

John Butcher (for Magpies reserves v Eagles) - John played both forward and in the ruck as he continues to gain touch after missing a lot of football in his first year on an AFL list. He made good position to receive the ball, and is improving each week.

Daniel Bass (for Panthers reserves v Bulldogs) - Another solid performance by Daniel, who is really starting to understand his position in the ruck contest, having 21 hit-outs to advantage. He is continuing to hone his work behind the ball, chasing both the ball and the player with a great effort. He continues to push for action in the SANFL seniors. He had 9 kicks, 6 handballs, 3 marks, 6 tackles, 21 hit-outs, and kicked a point.

Jordan Johns (for Panthers reserves v Bulldogs) - Jordan had an okay game off the half-back flank, making good choices when to run and defend - it’s something he’s improved on throughout the year. He has built up his body to the point where he can now take the knocks of SANFL football, and he must believe his strength when attacking the football, as he has a good ability to break the lines with speed. He had 5 kicks, 9 handballs, 6 marks, and laid 5 tackles.

Jay Nash (for Bulldogs v Panthers) - Another solid game by Jay off half-back, showing some good efforts in winning his own ball and still using it well despite the windy conditions. He worked both areas of the ground and the forwards start licking their lips when he delivers it inside 50. He had 16 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks, and laid a tackle.

Matthew Westhoff (for Bulldogs v Panthers) - Matt has the ability to turn a game as he outsmarts his opponent - he just needs to stay in the game and gather more possessions. He’s working hard on his defensive actions to continue his development, which will help him as a target in the forward line as well. He kicked the ball very well when having a shot on goal. He had 8 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks, 1 tackle, and booted 3 goals 1.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v Magpies) - Big Red struggled in the ruck in the first half, not working to his fullest capacity to get into the right position. He was positioned in the forward line in the second half and had a major influence on the game - taking 8 marks inside 50 and looking very dangerous indeed, booting 5 goals 2. Hopefully this can be a real turning point for him for the future.

Glen Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Magpies) - Cougar played deep in the forward line, presenting up to the midfield but he wasn’t able to exert much influence on the game this weekend. Hopefully it’s just a down week for him - he’s no doubt determined to improve each week as the season winds up.

Marlon Motlop (for Roosters v Redlegs) - North Adelaide struggled all day, getting beaten by nearly 70 points. Marlon played as a half forward coming up through the midfield but he couldn’t get involved in the play as much as he would have liked. He missed a couple of shots on the run after breaking clear, but continued to try to link up and get in space all day, but it was hard with North not able to keep possession of the ball. He had 10 kicks, 3 handballs, 4 marks, and laid a tackle.

Daniel Motlop (for Roosters v Redlegs) - Daniel played as a key forward and didn’t get much delivery until the last quarter when he started having an effect - when the ball came into the forward line quickly he was able to take the contested grabs that you expect from him, and he converted both his chances. He’s working his way back towards form after a couple of weeks off, but with the way North were playing it wasn’t a good day for forwards. He had 5 kicks, 4 handballs, 4 marks, and 7 hit-outs in addition to booting his 2 goals.

Michael Pettigrew (for Bloods v Tigers) - Petters started as a centre half forward and wasn’t used as a lead-up forward, and as such he found it difficult to get into the play. He didn’t lose focus and continued to put good pressure on the Glenelg defence, with two tackles directly leading to goals for teammates. He had 4 kicks, 2 handballs, 6 tackles, 3 marks, and kicked a goal.
