A GREAT DAY OUT

There will be jumping castles, face painters and handball targets for the kids and past players for the oldies as Port Adelaide opens the gates of Alberton Oval for its first home game for the year. With the swathe of AFL-listed players and exciting contracted Magpies talent on show in the League side, plus some of the brightest prospects running around in the Academy curtain raiser - this will be a great day out.

Round 2 doubles as a past players day for the club, with heroes from the 1950s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and the modern day coming to watch the game between the two old rivals.

Port Adelaide plans to turn Alberton back into a black and white fortress, and this will be just the first day of open hunting season for the Magpies, so make sure you get along to cheer the boys home.

FINAL SAY

Port Adelaide and Glenelg have enjoyed some classic battles over the years and the rivalry between the two clubs.

With both sides coming off an opening round loss - Port Adelaide to Norwood and the Bays to Sturt - this is an important game, even in the early stage of the season.

With upcoming matches against premiership fancies Woodville-West Torrens and recent pacesetters West Adelaide, the Magpies will need to play the game on their terms.

The game they want to play is that hard-running, brave and uncompromising style that puts a quick score on the board and harasses opposition sides into coughing up the ball.

It did that throughout the pre-season, so to come up against a strong benchmark in the Redlegs last week and lose has been an early hurdle for the Magpies to overcome, but there is plenty of potential in the side to make amends against the Bays.

That is no mean task - effectively coming up against a great unknown in Glenelg. The Bays are coached by former Power and Carlton player Nick Stevens, who will no doubt seek to introduce some AFL insights into the Glenelg operation.

They too will want to make amends for a poor Round 1 start last week.

This game will be a great day out for all Port Adelaide people, and have a great game of footy to match it.
