Port Adelaide midfielder Hamish Hartlett is in doubt for Friday night’s final NAB Cup clash with Melbourne as he overcomes shoulder soreness.

The 21-year-old came from the ground in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Fremantle at Encounter Bay Oval and took no further part in the game as the Power won by 20 points.

Port Adelaide general manager football Peter Rohde said Hartlett - whose shoulder had been jolted as he tried to fend off an opponent - was already improving.

“It was a totally different mechanism to how he would dislocate it. It was coming from a different angle,” Rohde told PortAdelaideFC.com.au

“He was a little bit sore after the game and he’s pulled up ok now, but there’s probably no point in risking him this week given that it’s a long year and he’s a very physical player.”

Rohde said there was no structural damage to Hartlett’s shoulder which was operated late in the 2011 season.

“Stability, strength and everything is perfect so it’s only just like a bruise to the joint area not the ligaments and tendons around it,” Rohde said.

The physical encounter with the Dockers is also set to force Steven Salopek and Simon Phillips out of the line-up for Friday’s 7.10pm clash with the Demons at AAMI Stadium.

Salopek suffered a broken nose and concussion.

“He’s having x-rays to make sure he hasn’t got any cracks to any facial bones, but we don’t think there’s anything in that,” Rohde said.

“So it’s a matter of waiting until the concussion settles down, but given it’s a six day turnaround with a broken nose as well as a concussion he’d be very doubtful.”

Phillips has been left with blurred vision after being poked in the eye.

“Simon’s got a condition in his eye which means he can’t really focus at the moment,” Rohde said.

“He’s got to have it covered up for a few days, but he won’t be able to train until Friday at the earliest so effectively that rules him out for this week.”

Port Adelaide has three experienced players to return for the final hit-out ahead of the 2012 premiership season.

Forward Justin Westhoff and defender Troy Chaplin will return after being rested following their extensive involvement in the opening rounds of the NAB Cup campaign.

Midfielder David Rodan will return after a fortnight out, having overcome a minor back injury suffered in the gym while performing his weights program during a week off.

“He’s fully recovered so he’ll play this week,” Rohde said.

Port Adelaide will name its team on Wednesday following an open training session at Alberton Oval from 2.30pm Tuesday.
