PORT Adelaide defender Jacob Surjan says his side will not be intimidated by the Western Bulldogs, after it was manhandled by the Hawks last weekend.

In what was a fiery encounter last Sunday, the emergency umpire was needed at several stages to help keep the peace.

Hamish Hartlett and Danyle Pearce received strong attention from Hawthorn players, who made a point of trying to physically intimidate the pair at every opportunity.

On one occasion, Pearce was left to fend for himself when wrestling with two opponents, and Surjan said that was not good enough.

"We're looking forward to helping all our teammates out - we were a bit disappointing in that area last week," he said.

"We've addressed that and we've got to come out and support all 22 blokes.

"We've spoken about that and hopefully addressed it for this weekend."

Surjan said Matthew Thomas was a certainty to line up against the Bulldogs, after missing last weekend's game through injury.

The Power missed Thomas' hardness around the ground and, with the Western Bulldogs being the No.1 contested-ball team in the League, his inclusion couldn't have come at a better time.

"He just brings toughness and leadership and that's probably what we missed a little bit last week," Surjan said.

"[The Bulldogs are] definitely a one-on-one-focused team and they're really good at their contested ball, so we're really going to have to be on our game to compete with them."

The Power haven't beaten the Western Bulldogs in almost six years, their last win came in round 19 2006 at TIO Stadium.

But rather than be intimidated by that record, Surjan said it added extra incentive to finally get one back.

"We haven't beaten the Bulldogs for a while, so it's a little added bonus for us if we can go over there and have a win," he said.

"We're pushing to become a better side and if we can get the Bulldogs over there before the bye, then it's definitely a massive scalp."
