It was a night of many upsides for Carlton, not the least of which was Andrew Carrazzo’s blanketing of Nick Dal Santo - but Monday evening’s comprehensive victory over St Kilda heralds in a shortened week for the Blues, who must now turn their attentions to Port Adelaide at Football Park this Sunday.

Carrazzo, a member of Carlton’s leadership group and an acting captain of the team in Chris Judd’s absence in Round 1, said that the 61-point win over the Saints put paid to the previous weekend’s below-par performance against Collingwood at the MCG.

“Everyone was pretty happy with how we went. It was just good to bounce back after a pretty average one the week before,” Carrazzo told reporters at the Don Chipp Theaterette at Visy Park yesterday.

“We played close to our worse game for the year last week in all aspects, so it was just good to bounce back. The big test now is to back it up.”

A 106-game player in his seventh season at Carlton, Carrazzo was of the view that true consistency of performance would only come with experience, for the group taking to the field in dark Navy Blue is still tender in years and games experience.

“It [consistency] just comes with the guys embracing 100 per cent the way we need to play. If you look at Geelong and St Kilda and their success it hasn’t happened overnight. It’s just going to take time, the penny will eventually drop for everyone, and that’s when we’ll become a really good team.”
