We're behind Choco, says Cassisi
Port Adelaide captain quick to quash speculation of unrest at Alberton
Williams was confident he had the support of the playing group when he was granted a two-year contract extension back in June, but there has been speculation that a number of Port Adelaide's players are unhappy with the man at the helm.
On Monday, Cassisi denied the reports, and said Williams was definitely the right man for the job.
“When Choco’s [Williams’] contract negotiations were happening, every player that spoke to the media came out and said they were 100 per cent behind Choco, and that’s no different now,” Cassisi said.
“We are struggling at the moment. We’ve had some bad losses and we’ve left ourselves open to people criticising us from every angle.
“It’s disappointing to hear people talk about the inner sanctum [of our club] when they’re not in it. They make a perception on it without being there and living and breathing it every day.”
Cassisi also dismissed suggestions of bad blood between Williams and new CEO Mark Haysman, saying the pair got along “really well”.
“We know the harmony at the club is really good, and we are working together as a group," he said.
"If the players are reading that sort of stuff [about rifts at the club], they’re probably laughing at it because it’s not happening.”
