PORT Adelaide will bluntly refuse any Fremantle pursuit of talented youngster Nathan Krakouer in return for ageing tagger Josh Carr, who is intent on returning to Adelaide.

The Power have given every indication they won't be receptive to any deal for Carr after the 2004 Port Adelaide premiership player officially flagged his desire to return to Alberton on the weekend.

Port coach Mark Williams said any talk that 20-year-old Krakouer, originally from WAFL club Claremont, might be used in a trade was "absolute rubbish".

"Nathan's a very important player to us, he'd been injured for a fair time and had some family bereavements back in Western Australia that we let him go back to be with his family over there - Nathan's a long term player for us," Williams said.

"It's a very short period of time after our last game, so we'll think about it, but the fact is; `Why would we think about it?'

"(Carr) was a fantastic leader for us and he was a premiership player and he's a hard player and our players love him, our supporters love him, but he's 28. If you look at our history I don't think we've traded for too many 28-year-olds."

Earlier in the season Williams was more positive about Carr's value to the Power.

"He was an exceptional player for us, a premiership player, a great leader for us and we'll seriously talk about Josh and if he's ringing me up wanting to come back I'll certainly see what we can do," Williams said in July.

"We're not exactly sure (if he fits with our list) and you can run the story to say he's definitely coming back, well you'd be wrong and you might get your fingers burned if that's the case, but I like the way he plays."
