Rnd 20 SANFL wrap-up
Fabian Deluca has won his third SANFL Player of the Week Award for 2008.
It’s now three weeks in a row that the Player of the Week winner has earned an AFL call-up – Deluca will be hoping his dominant performance in the ruck against Port Adelaide Magpies will keep the trend going.
The award is judged by Power development coaches, Healy and Trevena, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.
It was a quieter weekend for Power players in the SANFL, with three teams having the bye meaning we only had 8 in action. Here’s the full wrap…
Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Fabian Deluca (for Sturt v Port at Alberton) – Pick of the week. A really hard-running performance from Fab and got the better of Meiklejohn, who is one the better ruckmen in the SANFL. He won 22 hitouts and had 6 kicks, 7 marks and 7 handballs. He also played up forward and presented well, kicking 1.1. Brought his solid AFL form back to the SANFL.
Adam Thomson (for Sturt v Port at Alberton) – Continues his good form at SANFL level. Had 7 kicks, 4 marks, 18 handballs and 6 tackles. Had a number of clearances and used the handball well to bring his teammates into the game.
Greg Bentley (for Sturt v Port at Alberton) – Very solid with 18 kicks, 6 marks and 4 handballs as well as a goal. Played a bit on the ball, on the wing and up forward. Looked good at SANFL level and just needs to keep working hard.
Nathan Lonie (for North v Glenelg at the Bay) – First three quarters were excellent, a bit quiet in the last but he’d run himself into the ground. Used the ball well with 24 possessions.
Ryan Willits (for West v South at Noarlunga) – Ryan had a quiet day but West got another win on the board. Finished with 9 possessions and 5 marks.
Matt Lobbe (for Port reserves v Sturt reserves at Alberton) – Played centre half forward and in the ruck. Worked really hard, took some nice marks and spoiled well. A reasonable game with 8 kicks, 5 marks and 3 handballs to go with 1.1.
Marlon Motlop (for North reserves v Glenelg reserves at the Bay) – Marlon had a solid game with 21 possessions, 5 tackles and 2 goals. He just continues his consistent season.
Gavin Grose (for North reserves v Glenelg reserves at the Bay) – Played forward and back. Did some good work down back with some nice spoils. Just needs to work on his composure a little bit when he’s got the ball.
