It was another busy weekend for Port Adelaide’s development coach, Darren Trevena. The Power had 15 players running around in the SANFL and there were some great performances.

Many of the clubs new players seem to be fitting into their local teams. In good news for Power fans, a number of the more experienced players in the SANFL continue to keep pressure on those playing for the Power.

Brad Symes is a perfect example of this and Darren Trevena has named him as this week’s ‘Power SANFL player of the week’.

“He was excellent. He had 29 possessions including eight marks,” Trevena told us.

“What impressed me was the way he read the play so well. He had an excellent work rate and the way he used the ball was fantastic.”

While Symes was the player of the week, Trevena also gave rave reviews to many other Power players in the SANFL…

Jonathan Giles (Central) - “He was good around the ground. He took seven marks, used the ball well and even moved forward to kick a goal. He was imposing around the ground and is heading towards cementing a league spot”

Ryan Williams (Central reserves) - “He was solid and played a great third quarter. He had 20 plus touches and he is close to senior selection”

Alipate Carlile (South Adelaide) - “He played full-back and provided good run. He got forward to kick a goal among his 11 possessions. He shut down his opponents and only got beaten in two contests”

Travis Boak - (Glenelg reserves) - “Boaky played in the centre and showed a good work rate. He made three tackles during the match and was their best on ground. He is certainly pushing for senior selection”

Alex Lee - (Sturt reserves) - “He showed glimpses of what he is capable of. He must keep improving to push for league selection”

Fabian Deluca (Sturt) - “He jumped well at centre bounces and hunted aggressively around the ground. He rucked on his own for most of the day, due to an injury. He was reasonably solid.”

Troy Chaplin (Sturt) - “He showed a great attitude. He was at full back and ran out of defence all day. He offered a great link to the middle. His kicking was good and his spoiling was excellent. He had 17 touches and 7 marks.”

Adam Thomson (Sturt) - “Thomo was solid and he worked hard around the stoppages. He tackled well all day.”

Peter Hardy (Sturt) – “He didn’t get a lot of game time but he did show some good signs. He started in the back pocket and then moved to forward pocket. When he was forward he kicked a goal and showed that he has a lot to offer.”

Paul Stewart (Eagles) - “Stewy had a tough day on Clive (Waterhouse). It was a real learning experience on a player that leads well and is very versatile. This would have been good for his (Stewart’s) development.”

Nathan Batsanis (Eagles reserves) – “He is certainly pushing for league selection. He was their best on ground and kicked three goals and ran all day.”

Gavin Grose (North Adelaide) – “He played as their third tall forward and spent a fair bit of time on the bench. He took four marks, with limited opportunities.”

Robbie Gray (West) - “This was his first match back from injury. He really lifted his work rate in the last quarter and showed better run. The more he plays the better he’ll get.”

Ryan Willits (West) - “Ryan played across centre-half forward. He took eight marks and presented well. He also had good voice throughout the match. He’s starting to fit into their style of play. It won’t be long before the West players look for him as a first option.”

Next week there are three SANFL clubs with byes, but there will still be plenty of Power players in action.
