JACKSON Trengove’s steady improvement throughout the 2009 season has been rewarded, with the key defender receiving the Round 22 Cibo Glenelg Player of the Week Award.

Trengove was taken at pick 22 in the 2008 National Draft, before missing the start of the season through injury. He worked his way back through the reserves before cementing a spot in the Magpies league side at centre half back.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Darren Trevena and Stuart Cochrane, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

The full wrap is below.

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Jackson Trengove (for Port v South @ Noarlunga) - Another good game from Jacko at centre half back, keeping his opponent goalless while also taking some strong contested marks himself. He looked aggressive at the contest and chose the right times to run off his man to create rebound from defence. He had 18 possessions and 8 marks and used the ball well by hand and foot. He picked up a knock to his ankle during the final quarter which means he’ll be unlikely to play this week.

Mitch Farmer (for South v Port @ Noarlunga) - Mitch was again good playing half back and on the ball. He had 8 kicks, 5 marks, 10 handballs and a goal. He linked well moving out of defence and used the ball well. He pushed forward late in the game to kick a goal that helped the Panthers get across the line.

Daniel Stewart (for North v West @ Richmond) - Stewie got better as the game went on. He played forward, rucking in the forward 50. He had 8 kicks, 3 marks, 14 hitouts and 0.1. Wet and windy conditions made it difficult for him to mark the ball, but he still worked hard to present and created a contest going for marks.

Matt Lobbe (for West v North @ Richmond) - Another solid game from Lobbe, rucking against good opposition in Ackland and O’Hara. He rucked for most of the day winning 32 hitouts. He ran hard and hunted the ball well. Also had 9 possessions, 3 marks and a goal.

Matthew Martin (for West v North @ Richmond) - Matty struggled to get into the game and was used sparingly. He'll be hoping to bounce back this week.

Danny Meyer (for Glenelg v Eagles @ the Bay) - Played down back for the first three quarters where he didn’t have a lot of work to do as the Bays were on top. He ran hard to provide an option rebounding from defence but didn’t always get used. He moved forward in the last quarter when Glenelg was kicking into the wind but didn’t have a huge impact.

Mitch Banner (for Eagles reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay) - Mitch had a good day in wet conditions, finishing with 8 clearances to go with 27 kicks, 7 handballs and 6 tackles. He tackled strongly and overall it was a good game.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay) - Was solid in the ruck with 27 hitouts but we’re just looking for some more aggression at the contest. He had 16 possessions and we’re hoping he can build on that to have an influence in the league finals.

Jonathan Giles (for Central reserves v Sturt reserves @ Elizabeth) - Joffa was very good again, hunting the ball at stoppages and pushing forward to kick a goal. He’ll certainly be pushing for a league spot after another dominant performance in the ruck in the reserves.

Jesse Laurie (for West reserves v North reserves @ Richmond) - Jesse started at half back against a bigger opponent before moving into the midfield. He got a couple of good clearances in tough, wet conditions. We’d like him to throw his body around a bit more at the stoppages, but overall a solid game. Finished with 20 possessions, 6 marks and 4 tackles

Wade Thompson (for North reserves v West reserves @ Richmond) - Wade started slowly, struggling to really get involved in the game. He moved to half back in the second half and put in a few good efforts, rebounding from defence. He applied some good defensive pressure and finished with 6 tackles.
