In a terrific display, Daniel Motlop has regained form at the tail end of the season with a stand-out display for North Adelaide.
Mots has had an up-and-down year throughout 2010, but the sort of performance he put in on the weekend sets him up well to return to AFL action in 2011.
Another clutch of Power players performed well at SANFL level, with a total of 11 players pulling on the guernsey for their SANFL club.
SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Moltop (Roosters v Eagles) - Daniel played very well, which was just great to see. He was his usual tricky self, confusing his opponent at times. He chased and pressured the opposition when not in possession, so he was doing all the things that make him stand out on both the offensive and defensive side of the game. He kicked 4 goals from 26 possessions.
Matt Westhoff (Bulldogs reserves v Double Blues) - Matt played mainly on the wing and half-forward. He took a courageous mark with the ruckman coming back into him, and his tackling and pressure was a highlight of his game. He needs to make sure he stays involved in the play for the full game. He booted 2 goals from 16 disposals.
Wade Thompson (Roosters reserves v Double Blues) - Bullet once again played down back, defending well at times, and using run and carry to move the ball of the defensive 50m arc. He set up his forwards well with some good attacking play.
Jasper Pittard (Double Blues reserves v Roosters) - Jasper played down back and won plenty of the ball, running and rebounding well to set up some good drive off half-back. He hurt his hamstring in the third quarter and did not return, and it’s likely to rule him out for the remainder of the year.
Glenn Dawson (Eagles reserves v Roosters) - Cougar started forward but had difficulty getting into the game. He continued to work hard though, going down back after half-time and defending very well. He made some very good spoils to deny his opponent the opportunity to mark the ball.
Jarrad Redden (Eagles v Roosters) - Jarrad has shown very good improvement over the past month, but unfortunately this was not one of his better games. He found it tough up forward and couldn’t have an impact upon the play when in the ruck.
Scott Harding (Bloods reserves v Panthers) - A very good game by Scott, gaining first possession around stoppages and using the ball well. He always gains plenty of possessions at this level and looks very comfortable - the real challenge for Scott is to transfer this sort of form to league level.
Daniel Webb (Bloods reserves v Panthers) - Playing as a key forward, Webby presented up to the ball carrier very well, taking several marks. It was excellent to see him work on the defensive side of his game and he applied several tackles in the forward line to keep the pressure on the defenders and try to create goal-scoring opportunities not just for himself but also his teammates.
Daniel Bass (Panthers v Bloods) - A solid game by Daniel, rucking against former Power-listed ruckman in Cockshell. Both players worked hard to give their midfielders first use of the ball, and Daniel hunted the ball well from the stoppage, either gaining possession of applying a tackle. This is exciting to watch for a player of his height and weight who doesn’t come from a football background - it shows just how far he’s come this year.
Johns (Panthers reserves v Bloods) - Johns played in the backline this week and provided plenty of drive off the half-back flank. He links up nicely when receiving the ball by hand, carrying it forward before delivering by foot. He worked hard all day and has the ability to keep running hard - he’s very fit and just keeps running.
Matthew Lobbe (Bloods v Panthers) - Coming back from injury, Lobbe played mainly in the forward line. Unsurprisingly he looked pretty rusty at times, having missed quite a bit of football, but he’s a big boy and he knows how to use his body well in the contest to have an impact upon the play. He had a small stint in the ruck against his teammate Daniel Bass, which was good for the coaches to watch to gather a comparison between the two players.
