TROY Chaplin and Ben Jacobs have been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to surgery.

Head fitness coach Cam Falloon said Chaplin will have surgery this week to repair cartilage in his left knee.

“Chappy will have a clean-up this week to repair the knee injury that kept him out of the Round 19 game,” Falloon said.

“He’s been managing the issue for a while and it’s come to the point that surgery is required.”

Jacobs has scar tissue in both ankles, which requires surgery to repair.

Meanwhile, Jasper Pittard has been given a medical clearance and is available to play in Round 21.

Pittard sustained serious rib and lung injuries as a result of a collision with teammate Chad Wingard from the match against Melbourne in Darwin.

The defender travelled back to Adelaide by train and was unable to fly for the weeks following the injury. The club will decide this week if Pittard will return through the AFL or the SANFL.

Scans last week confirmed Cam Hitchcock will miss around three to four weeks of football with a hamstring strain.

It’s the latest setback for the small forward in an injury-riddled 2012.

Jacob Surjan was a late withdrawal from the Magpies big win in the SANFL because of a back complaint while rookie Danny Butcher will miss the remainder of the season because of a hip injury.

Alipate Carlile (back/hamstring), Tom Jonas (calf/groin), Surjan (back) and Wingard (glute) will all face fitness tests at training this week.
