Fight Night At Alberton
See Anthony Mundine takes on Rigoberto Alvarez for the interim WBA light-middleweight title on October 19 at the Port Club.
Three-time world champion Mundine takes on Rigoberto Alvarez for the WBA interim junior middleweight world title in Newcastle, on Wednesday 19 October.
The Port Club will give you a front-row seat to this must-see boxing event with live and exclusive coverage via Main Event on the big screens at Alberton from 6.30pm.
A former world title holder, Alvarez looms as ‘The Man’s” biggest test to date as the Aussie looks to continue his progress in the junior middleweight division. The 33-year-old Mexican boasts an impressive 27 wins, with his three losses coming in world or regional title fights.
Like Mundine, Alvarez is a former super middleweight champion who has made a successful transition to junior middleweight division, having already held the interim title last year.
Coming off back-to-back wins over Garth Wood and Xavier Toliver, 36 year-old Mundine is back in the form that saw him claim world titles in the super middleweight and middleweight divisions.
“I’m trying to become the first man in history to win world titles moving down weight divisions and this is the first step” Mundine said.
“Alvarez is very accomplished fighter who has won titles as a super middleweight and junior middleweight.
“But I’m ready for it. I’ve been waiting for my shot at a world title and I’m not going to let him, or anybody get in my way”.

The pair will square off over six rounds ahead of the Mundine-Alvarez showdown.
Niemann is unbeaten in five professional fights, while Papu’a is vastly more experienced with a 12-13 record.
