Port Adelaide’s Steven Salopek and Brendon Ah Chee will line up alongside each other in Saturday morning’s Foxtel Cup Quarter Final against Morningside at AAMI Stadium.

Salopek, recently transferred to Port Adelaide’s SANFL side, has been named on the wing for his debut in the famous prison bar guernsey.

The first round draft pick was moved from his former SANFL side Glenelg to maximise his game time in a state league team and has been named on the wing for the Magpies side.

Salopek spoke to PTV about his transfer and Port Adelaide football development manager Daniel Healy says that Sal will use the opportunity to reclaim a spot in the Power’s midfield.

“When you make the big call and push to move a guy from one SANFL team to another, the onus is now really on Sal to perform,” said Healy.

“He’s well aware of that and is excited by the challenge.

“Tony Bamford [Magpies coach] and the crew has been really supportive of it and he’ll get the opportunity there but at the end of the day it comes down to Sal himself performing.”

Ah Chee has been named in the centre in what can be genuinely considered a League team audition for the young West Australian.

Chosen with pick 45 in last year’s National Draft, Ah Chee has been pushing for League selection in Port Adelaide’s SANFL side for a number of weeks.

Magpies coach Tony Bamford has used the Foxtel Cup to test potential League players and Healy believes this is a good chance for Ah Chee to prove his worth to Port Adelaide’s SANFL selectors.

“It’s really good timing for Brendon, he’s been really close and been reasonably close to getting in the Maggies’ League side,” said Healy.

“Tony Bamford and Bryan Beinke [Magpies assistant] have been happy with his work but he hasn’t forced his way into the League team yet so this is possibly a way he can do that.

“If he plays well enough to say ‘You can’t keep me in the reserves anymore’ then away he’ll go.”
