Shaun Burgoyne, one of the most damaging players in the competition, has been passed fit for Port Adelaide’s season opener against Fremantle on Saturday at Subiaco.
And on the evidence of Monday’s training session, there could be further good news ahead for the Power’s small group of players on the verge of returning to the team.
Burgoyne had missed the last two Power trial games with a bruised hip but trained in full on Monday and the club has declared him fit.
Question marks still linger over the fitness of Dean Brogan (hamstring), Peter Burgoyne (thigh), Michael Pettigrew (ankle), and Josh Mahoney (ankle).
Brogan made a strong case for his selection at Monday’s afternoon training session at Alberton by rucking, marking up forward and kicking goals in the 90-minute session.
Peter Burgoyne and Michael Pettigrew also trained with the main group on Monday, while Mahoney did some lighter work away from the group. He is expected to join the main group by Wednesday’s major session.
Warren Tredrea will almost certainly not play this weekend after the club was unable to put a timeframe on his return in its latest injury list. Tredrea did train on Monday though and could be back as soon as Round 2.
The Power’s official injury list for the week beginning Monday 26 March is as follows...
Dean Brogan (hamstring) – test
Peter Burgoyne (thigh) – test
Shaun Burgoyne (hip) – available
Josh Mahoney (ankle) – test
Michael Pettigrew (ankle) – test
Warren Tredrea (knee) – ongoing assessment
