Darryl Wakelin began his career at St Kilda, where he was drafted as pick 43 in the 1994 pre-season draft, playing 115 games for St Kilda. He then moved to Port Adelaide in 2001, where he debuted against the Brisbane Lions. He played a total of 146 games for Port Adelaide, giving him a total of 261 games. His career highlights include being declared the 2005 Best Team Man, a pre-season Premiership player in 2001 and 2002, as well as playing a key role in the Premiership year of 2004.
