Port Adelaide chief executive John James has dispelled some myths about the television coverage of Power games in 2007, assuring SA based fans that they will see every game on free-to-air (FTA) television in 2007. James also said that television coverage of games are important, but it’s even more important that supporters actually get to the game and watch the Power live.

“The positives from the new arrangement with Channel 7, Channel 10 and Foxtel are that we will still have all of our games on free-to-air (FTA) television and certainly for this year – in the absence of a Friday night game away – we will have all of our away games televised live on FTA.

“We do need to watch where the broadcasting arrangement is heading very closely, because it may change the landscape in the future. We will continue to do what we can to ensure that our supporters get the best possible television outcome, particularly for our away games.”

“The fact that all of our away games will be shown live into Adelaide this year gives us 12 months to potentially meet with Channel 7 and see how that goes and hopefully influence a change because we all want to see live away games into Adelaide on a Friday night.

James has been advised that it is likely only one, or a maximum of two, of the club’s home games will be shown live against the gate on FTA television.

“We know that our Round 3 Showdown game will be shown live on Channel 10, but that has been the case in past years. As a maximum for this year, there may only be one additional live game on FTA television, but if that’s the case it will be very late in the year,” James said.

James said that what he is most passionate about and what had the biggest influence on the club and team was that people attend games at AAMI Stadium.

“Our main priority is to get people to our games and to look after those people, because in the end there is no better way to support your team and there is no better experience for a supporter than to be there live,” James said.

“We are absolutely committed to giving the best value and providing the best entertainment to our supporters at the games, and we are going to give them every reason to go to the games.

“We are so excited about what is happening at the club. We have the third youngest list in the AFL and the second least experienced, but what that means is we have a lot of youth and a lot of excitement, mixed in with our superstars.

“We believe we have the best football school in the country, and our aim is to teach our footballers and develop them in the quickest possible time.

“We are really excited about the evolution of our team. We have put no limits on this playing group and where it can go, and what we would say is don’t just watch us on television, join the Powerevolution in 2007,” said James.
