The Aboriginal Lands Cup is managed by the SANFL and includes a full-week of personal development and cultural activities for the two teams.
Both teams arrived Monday and have attended workshops and tours facilitated by a range of partners including the RAAF Base Edinburgh, SA Police, Metropolitan Fire Service, the Drill Core Library, Adelaide Zoo and Rio Tinto. The Maralinga Team were also hosted at Port Adelaide Football Club and the APY Team visited Adelaide Football Club.
Port Adelaide Football Club has previously launched a Central Corridor Strategy which includes visits to both regions by Power Community Ltd, the community development arm of the club. Another launch will take place on Saturday, with PAFC Chairman David Koch capturing the significance of the day to release the club’s first Reconciliation Action Plan. Koch and Leah Armstrong, CEO of Reconciliation Australia, addressed an audience of 520 people at the pre-game dinner.
The Aboriginal Lands Cup is a significant event on the SA football calendar, with a Steering Committee chaired by Don McSweeny, Major Sponsorship from Rio Tinto and Skill Hire, significant support across Government and both AFL Clubs, and professionally managed by the SANFL.
