Redden booted four goals for the Eagles reserves and dominated the ruck in a good all-round performance.
There were 15 Power players in action in the SANFL on the weekend, read the full report from development coaches Darren Trevena and Garry Hocking below.
SANFL Player of the Week
Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v Tigers) - Another great game from Reddo playing in the ruck and up forward. He marked the ball well and worked hard defensively to keep the ball inside 50. His kicking - both at goal and around the ground - was very good for a big man in slippery conditions. Finished the day with 10 possessions, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 21 possessions and 4 goals.
Wade Thompson (for Roosters reserves v Panthers) - This was Bullet’s first game back after an injury, and he only played three quarters. He played down back where he was able to read the play and use his speed to run the ball out of defence. He looked fresh and applied some good tackles, and will improve with playing the next three weeks.
John Butcher (for Magpies reserves v Bulldogs) - It was a better game by John this week in wet conditions, which don’t really suit a big man. He worked hard in the forward line to create a leading option and was used as a target more than in previous weeks. He also had some stints in the ruck where he hunts the ball well after the hit-out he finished with 8 possessions and 3 marks.
Marlon Motlop (for Roosters reserves v Panthers) - Marlon was demoted to the reserves this week but he went back with the right attitude. He had a very good first quarter in particular, playing both half forward and on the ball. When he was playing in the midfield he played the sweeper role very well, receiving handballs and then using the ball well. He runs and carries and works both ends of the groumd.
Daniel Motlop (for Roosters v Panthers) - Daniel had an average game by his standards, and he needs to have more impact on the game by creating opportunities for him and his team. He was only really able to influence the play when the ball was delivered to him when up forward, but he came up to the wing in the second half and got himself into the game. He needs to keep getting involved in the play in order to push for AFL selection. He had 8 kicks, 3 handballs, 4 marks, 3 handballs, 8 hit-outs, and kicked a point.
Daniel Bass (for Panthers v Roosters) - This was Daniel’s first game in the seniors at SANFL, and he had a very solid game, fitting in nicely at this level. He used his strength in the ruck contest and held his own against both Ackland and Alleway. He needs to keep working on his positioning around the ground, which will develop as he plays more games at this level. He finished with 2 kicks, 6 handballs, 1 mark, 4 tackles, and 13 hit-outs.
Jordan Johns (for Panthers reserves v Roosters) - Jordan started down back on a larger opponent, and struggled to match him through both height and weight difference. He was moved up the field and immediately was able to be more impactful and use run and carry. He needs to keep working hard on reading the play and getting his own ball.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods reserves v Double Blues) - Back in the senior side this week after some good form in the reserves. He struggled to find his feet early but had a better approach after half time, chasing and tackling well. He’ll be better for the run.
Jay Nash (for Bulldogs v Magpies) - A solid game from Nashy. He won his own ball and played really tough contested footy. Used the ball well and the only thing we’re looking for him to do is get forward a little bit more. He had 15 kicks, 5 handballs, 3 marks, and laid a tackle.
Matthew Westhoff (for Bulldogs v Magpies) - A reasonable game but he needs to be more consistently involved in games. He had 11 kicks, 1 handball, took 4 marks and booted three goals.
Glen Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Tigers) - A decent game from the Cougar, putting his head over the ball when he needed to and finishing with 2 goals. Also had 13 possessions, 4 marks and 2 tackles.
Michael Pettigrew (for Bloods v Double Blues ) - A quiet day for Petters, struggling to mark the ball in wet conditions. Had a great attitude but never really had a big influence on the game. Had 5 kicks, 1 handball, 5 tackles and 3 hitouts.
Scott Harding (for Bloods v Double Blues) - Hadn’t played for three weeks and this could have been a factor in his quiet performance. Worked hard but couldn’t quite get involved in the game. 12 possessions, 2 marks and 4 handball receives.
Jasper Pittard (for Double Blues reserves v Bloods) - Played loose in defense for two quarters and had plenty of the ball, using it quite well. Had some good tough efforts but at times didn’t run hard enough to receive the ball. Finished with 14 kicks, 7 handballs, 4 marks and 2 tackles.
