THE MAN who will stand Hawks star Lance Franklin on Sunday, Port Adelaide's Alipate Carlile, says Buddy can't be stopped.

Franklin, who last week booted 13 goals, shapes as the most dangerous player on either team in Sunday's contest at AAMI Stadium and Carlile said he would have to take responsibility if the superstar unleashed once again.

But he said Franklin wasn't the only threat.

"We talked about probably two or three situations that might pop up, and that included Cyril (Rioli) and other guys like that who are just as dangerous as Buddy on their own days," he said.

"We're planning for anything they can throw at us."

The defender said the Power's leadership in its defensive half would play an important role in subduing Hawthorn's forward line.

"I don't know if you can actually stop [Franklin]; it's probably about trying to quell his influence," he said.

"It falls on my shoulders and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"Our leadership has to be top notch, especially down back.

"With the three talls we've got, having Jacko (Jackson Trengove) and Chappy (Troy Chaplin) there is really good, they do a lot of the talking down there and take a lot of the leadership on their shoulders."

Port's defence will obviously play a key role in nullifying Hawthorn's deadly attack, but Carlile said the plan to halt its scoring would begin in the midfield.

And the defender backed his team's midfield setup to stop the Hawks' forwards receiving good supply, as it did against Carlton last Saturday night.

"They've got some guys through he midfield that can change the game, they've got (Luke) Hodge, (Sam) Mitchell and guys like that," he said.

"Hopefully the balls that come in are high and give us a chance.

"We think our structures are going to hold up."

The Power will enter Sunday's match without key midfielder Travis Boak, who will miss up to a month of football due to an injured foot.

Boak had surgery on his right foot this week to release a plantar fascia that had caused him discomfort since the beginning of the season.

Despite training on Thursday, Jay Schulz is in doubt for the clash after suffering heavy bruising to his ribs against Carlton.

While admitting it was a blow, especially ahead of such a tough game, Carlile said the absence of the reigning club champion and the Power's leading goalkicker wouldn't affect the way Port plays.

"Boak out and Schulzy maybe, we're not sure … we've had Robbie Gray out for a few weeks, but that doesn't change how we've been playing," he said.

"We just go in with the structures and the belief that we can do it.
