JOHN BUTCHER will remain at Port Adelaide for another season after agreeing to terms on a new contract.

Butcher, in his sixth season, played primarily in the SANFL as a mobile key forward, but also strung together five games at AFL level.

The quality of his on-field workrate, attack on the football and exceptional aerial performance shown at AFL level in the back of the 2015 season have earned his contract renewal.

"John has demonstrated signs of improvement at the end of the year and is a hard-working player," Port's GM of football Chris Davies told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"We've agreed to terms on a one-year deal, which we believe fits the needs of the footy club and also affords him the chance to work on those key areas of improvement."

Butcher burst onto the AFL scene with several impressive, multiple-goal performances in 2011, but was plagued by injury issues in his second season.

Since then he has battled to recapture that brilliant debut form, however completed his first full pre-season earlier in 2015.

News of Butcher's renewals comes as Port Adelaide locked away key playmaker Hamish Hartlett for an extra five years.

Hartlett was previously tied to the Power until the end of 2016.
