GET to Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon for the final home game of 2011 and help to put the Magpies into the finals!
Port Adelaide can secure its place in the final five if it beats the Eagles in the last minor round game of 2011 … and the only way you’ll see it is by BEING THERE because it’s not on television.
The Magpies and Eagles clash from 2.10pm on Saturday and they want a 5000-strong home crowd for added inspiration.
Coach Tony Bamford says the home support could make all the difference.
“It might get them over the line in that last five minutes of the final quarter because there’s no doubt supporters have a massive influence on the players especially in close games,” Tony said.
“We’d like to see as many supporters out there as we can and we need you to make plenty of noise so we can get the boys over the line.”
Port Adelaide lost the sides’ only 2011 clash by 19 points at Unleash Solar Oval back in Round 6.
The Magpies are sitting 5th on the ladder half a game clear of sixth and are chasing their first finals berth since 2008.
The equation is simple - beat the Eagles on Saturday and Port Adelaide will play in the Elimination Final - against Glenelg - at AAMI Stadium on Sunday 18 September. If we lose this Saturday, and we need other Round 23 results to go our way to stop South, North or West Adelaide to take our place in the five.
“If we win the game then we don’t have to worry about anyone else or the results of other games which is the best scenario for us because everything is in our control then,” Tony said.
“The other games could go either way which is even more incentive for us, so we don’t have to worry about other things happening.
“The players all know exactly the situation we are in. We have been in this same situation for probably three or four weeks. We’ve had to win to give us more of a chance of staying alive, but this one is an elimination final pretty much.”
