PORT ADELAIDE has five players in line for All-Australian honours with Travis Boak, Zak Butters, Darcy Byrne-Jones, Charlie Dixon and Tom Jonas named in the preliminary 40-man squad.

Selectors named the squad on Tuesday afternoon, with Port Adelaide’s five players the most of any side along with Geelong.

If selected in the final side, it would be the third time Boak has been named All-Australian after previously winning the honour in 2013 and 2014.

He would join John Abley (1956, 58, 61), Robbie Gray (2014, 15, 17, 18) and Warren Tredrea (2001, 02, 03, 04) as the only Port Adelaide players to be recognised with All-Australian honours more than twice.

It would be the first time Butters, Byrne-Jones, Dixon and Jonas make the team if selected, although Jonas has been part of the 40-man side in both 2017 and 2018 without winning full honours.

Butters was earlier today named as part of the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 side, and his selection in the All-Australian team would cap a fine second season for the 20-year-old.

Port Adelaide and Geelong dominate the selections with a league-high five players each in the 40-man squad.

Patrick Dangerfield heads the list, with the Geelong superstar aiming to become just the sixth player to be selected in eight separate All-Australian sides.

His Cats teammates Mark Blicavs, Cam Guthrie, Tom Hawkins and Sam Menegola have also been included in the squad.

There are 10 players from last year's team that have again earned selection in the preliminary squad, including Harris Andrews, Marcus Bontempelli, Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Max Gawn, Dylan Grimes, Hawkins, Jack Macrae, Lachie Neale and Scott Pendlebury.

Collingwood has the next most representatives behind Geelong and Port Adelaide with four players in the squad, while Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs each have three players included.

A total of 15 sides have been represented in the 40-man squad, with Adelaide, Gold Coast and North Melbourne the only teams not to have a single player named.

The final side will be named during an online and Fox Sports televised presentation on Thursday 24 September.
