Australian music legend Jimmy Barnes has offered to perform at the AFL Grand Final for free, but there’s a catch.
The ARIA Hall of Famer is a proud Port Adelaide supporter and told Adelaide radio he would volunteer his time only if the club was playing in the decider at the Gabba on October 24.
The AFL is yet to announce its Grand Final entertainment, although did confirm on Tuesday that the Queensland Symphony Orchestra would perform.
Barnes said he had not been asked to feature but would offer to.
“I haven’t been approached so I think you’re stuck with the Symphony Orchestra,” he joked.
“It’s not really Up There Cazaly is it?
“But if Port Adelaide get in, I’ll go sing for nothing.”
Barnes grew up in Adelaide and made a name for himself with performances at the Largs Pier Hotel in the Port Adelaide heartland.
He explained that his whole family was invested in Port’s push for Premiership glory in 2020.
“I went to school in Port Adelaide,” Barnes said.
“I grew up in Elizabeth and the Port so my family in Adelaide all love Port so I’ve got a thing for Port.”
The news will be extra incentive for Ken Hinkley and his team to get over the line in their Preliminary Final next Friday night against either Richmond or St Kilda, although the AFL will certainly have something to say about Barnes’ offer.
