Hawthorn midfielder Liam Shiels has accepted a one match ban for striking Geelong's Alan Christensen and will miss the Hawks' clash with Port Adelaide.
LIAM Shiels has accepted a one match ban for striking Geelong’s Alan Christensen in Hawthorn’s 2-point loss on Friday night.
The Hawks midfielder was adjudged by the AFL Match Review Panel to have engaged in reckless conduct (carrying two activation points), low impact (one) and high contact (two) against Christensen.
The five activation points resulted in the classification of a level two offence drawing 125 demerit points on his record and a one-match ban.
Shiels would have still missed a match had he entered an early plea and the AFL Tribunal today confirmed that Hawthorn had elected to accept the striking penalty.
Meanwhile, Brett Guerra and Lance Franklin have both been cleared to play against the Power in Launceston this weekend.
Port Adelaide will play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium at 1.10pm (EST) on Sunday 12 August.
A trio of players could possibly return to football this Sunday afternoon.
