FREMANTLE superstar Nat Fyfe has won the 2019 Brownlow Medal, polling 33 votes in this year’s count.
Fyfe upstaged Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield (27 votes), Carlton’s Patrick Cripps and Brisbane’s Lachie Neale (26 votes each) to become a dual Brownlow Medallist, after winning the award in 2015.
Port Adelaide midfielder Travis Boak was the highest vote-getter for the Power, finishing with 16 votes to cap off a strong individual season.
Robbie Gray (10 votes), Tom Rockliff (seven votes), Ollie Wines and Sam Gray (six votes apiece) rounded out the Power’s top five.
Young gun Connor Rozee received one vote for his five-goal haul against Brisbane in round three when he was nominated for the Rising Star, and polled three votes against Sydney in round 21, to finish with four votes in his first season.
In other awards on the night, West Coast livewire forward Liam Ryan won the Mark of the Year for his hanger on Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn in round 9.
A familiar face was at the podium for the 2019 Goal of the Year, with Eddie Betts winning his fourth goal of the season. Betts sealed the deal with a left-foot checkside from the pocket against Gold Coast.
The Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award, in which Boak was a finallist for his work with the Childhood Cancer Association, went to GWS star Stephen Coniglio for his outstanding service to the multicultural youth of Western Sydney.
