PORT Adelaide's Shaun Burgoyne is expected to miss at least some pre-season training after joining teammate Steven Salopek in having post-season surgery.

Burgoyne had corrective surgery to clean up cartilage damage in his left knee, which is expected to limit his pre-season training up until Christmas.

“At this stage we’re not putting a set time frame as to when Shaun will be back running", head fitness coach Cam Falloon said.

"We are going to take a cautious approach given the bone bruising he had to the same knee throughout the season.”

Salopek had reconstructive surgery on his right shoulder which he damaged in the round-seven match against North Melbourne.

Unlike Burgoyne, Salopek is expected to commence pre-season training on time.

“Steven will be ready to run by the start of pre-season training and we expect him to be able to have full body contact by late December or early January,” Falloon said.
