SINCE 1870, 1610 men have had the honour of representing the Port Adelaide Football Club at league level.

Whether it was in the club’s first premiership in 1884, the Australian record six-in-a-row premiership sides in the 1950s or as part of the club’s inaugural AFL list in 1997, each and every player to have worn the black and white, and silver and teal is just as important as the next.

Port Adelaide’s history committee, made up of hard-working volunteers, has compiled a list of every player to have played at least one league game for the club and has set about the mammoth task of ensuring there is at least one image of each of them in the club’s collection.

In its 150th year in 2020, the club is aiming to release a limited-edition print featuring every player to have played at least one senior game for Port Adelaide.

Picture the biggest team photo you’ve ever seen!

But the club needs your help because many player photos are missing.

“We are really excited about the opportunity of elevating the history of our club and more importantly, our players,” said Port Adelaide’s General Manager – Strategic Projects, Tara MacLeod.

“The Club has a long and proud history, and going into our 150th year it is more important than ever to celebrate it.

“The print we are working on will be part of a celebration of Port Adelaide in 2020 – a special way to commemorate everyone who has pulled on the Port Adelaide colours and represented the club at league level at least once.

“Each one of those men is as important as the other - we don’t want to leave anyone out, but we are realistic and know the limitations that come with the passage of time.”

At last count, images of 517 players were yet to be found.

The club is hoping to secure those with the help of the community, with the hope that family members may have images that can be included.

“As it stands now, the biggest gaps (in images) are from 1870 through to the 1920s so we are really looking for anyone who played during this time, but we also have gaps in more recent times as well,” said Ms MacLeod.

“The photos people submit could be any type of photo – they don’t need to be football photos. We can use family photos, wedding photos, literally any photo can be submitted.

“We often get people coming to our history committee and asking for information and photos about their relatives who have played or worked or volunteered at the club.

“This time we are asking the community to help us in this important project.”

A list of the players whose photos are missing can be found at this link. Players whose names are highlighted in yellow have since been found.

If you have any images you can supply, please email them through, along with some information about the person and year of the photo to history@pafc.com.au or you can call the club at 8447 9906.

The club is hoping to have the images secured by mid-November.
