HAWTHORN’s Tom Mitchell has remained at the top of the AFL fantasy leaderboard despite a quiet performance by his standards.
Mitchell scored 84 fantasy points in Hawthorn’s win over Gold Coast, well down on his 120.3-point season average.
The Hawks’ ball magnet had 31 touches, three marks and two tackles but also gave away three free kicks to lose some points.
As a result, Michell’s value has dropped $9,000 since last week and $84,000 overall, and he is the second-most expensive player in the competition behind Western Bulldog Jack Macrae.
Collingwood’s Brodie Grundy is closing in on Mitchell.
The hard-working ruckman scored 103 points in Collingwood’s win over Carlton – short of his 118.2-point season average – to close to within just 28 points of Mitchell.
Just three Port Adelaide players managed to score 100 fantasy points or more in the win over Melbourne on Thursday night with defender Tom Jonas the best performer with 103.
Ollie Wines (102) and Sam Powell-Pepper (100) were the other two, but 97 points from Justin Westhoff has kept him at the top of the club’s overall leaderboard.
Justin Westhoff (mid/fwd - $662,000)
Westhoff gained another $3,000 in value despite falling just short of his 101.1-point season average.
He remains the only Port Adelaide player averaging 100 points or more in 2018 and has dropped one spot in the competition to a ranking of 23rd overall.
Westhoff had a season-low 12 disposals (equal with his Round 4 game against Essendon), five marks, nine hit-outs, six tackles and two goals – one of them to seal the match.
He continues to attract admirers with 28387 fantasy coaches including him in their team – that’s around 20% of the competition.
Ollie Wines (mid - $672,000)
Averaging a remarkable 125.7 in his last three weeks, Wines has shown why he is so valued by those at Port Adelaide, who were so pleased to secure his long-term playing future at Alberton.
He added another $29,000 to his value after racking up 29 disposals, four marks and five tackles in a tough game for midfielders against Melbourne.
His season average continues to rise, now sitting at 96.2 points per game and he is now Port Adelaide’s most expensive AFL fantasy player ahead of Westhoff.
Tom Jonas (def - $523,000)
Second-ranked in defence behind Darcy Byrne-Jones, Jonas has been an absolute rock in the backline.
His 103 points against Melbourne was well in excess of his 80.9 season-average.
Jonas had 20 disposals, three tackles and a game-high eleven marks. The next best for marks was Melbourne's Christian Petracca with six.
While he is being spoken about in All-Australian circles, in the AFL fantasy domain he is not all that popular, appearing in just 1493 teams.
His value went up by $8,000 after the Melbourne game to mark a total $96,000 value increase since the start of the season.
Sam Powell-Pepper (mid - $545,000)
Another who reached 100 points on Friday night, Powell-Pepper was simply a bull in midfield with a club-record 17 tackles.
He had 15 disposals and two marks as well.
Averaging 81 points per game, since his return from suspension six games ago, he has averaged 87.5 points.
The 20-year-old continues on an upwards trajectory with an overall value increase of $53,000, after gaining another $11,000 against the Demons.
