THE 2014 Medibank Community Fund Community Grants have been announced at a function at Port Adelaide Football Club.

A total of 42 community groups from across the nation have been selected to receive grants from more than 900 applications. The successful recipients will share the total pool of $600,000 to deliver grassroots, community initiatives.

Power Community Ltd, the community development arm of Port Adelaide Football Club, was one of four recipients in South Australia.

Power Community Ltd will expand the Empowering Youth program for students aged 14-16 years, and encourage more young people to make the right choices in relation to their health, wellbeing, education and future career path.

The other recipients at the function were the Special Olympics South Australia, who are preparing athletes for the National Games in October; the Yankalilla Area School, who have created an Edible Kitchen Garden with an organic focus; and the Whyalla Men’s Shed, who provide a weekly social outlet for men of all ages and backgrounds.

It was an honour for Power Community Ltd to host the function with the other recipients and meet the staff from Medibank and the Medibank Community Fund – we are kicking goals together.
