As the Power prepare for Showdown XXXVIII, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at who’s in the mix for selection for both sides in the upcoming big game this Sunday.

Port Adelaide
After being pulled out of the Hawthorn clash last week due to a calf injury, Robbie Gray will be reviewed on Thursday to determine if he is fit to hit the field on the weekend.

Captain Travis Boak is remaining positive for his speedy return.

“He said he’s feeling a lot better – obviously at this stage it’s touch-and-go, and we’ll wait and see…we’re hoping to get him back for a big game on Sunday,” Boak said.

Jared Polec is likely to start against the Crows despite being subbed-off during the Power’s clash against Hawthorn; a strategic move as part of the midfielder’s body management.

With Ollie Wines still in plaster, Jarman Impey sidelined with a hamstring injury and Andrew Moore serving week two of his three-week ban, there remains opportunity for others to shine.

After being brought back into the side at the eleventh hour with the omission of Gray, Brendon Ah Chee also remains in the mix for the upcoming Crows clash, while Jake Neade and Cam O’Shea may also get a look in depending on match-ups.

Despite a poor team effort in the Magpies’ clash against Norwood on Friday night, Karl Amon was the Peter Jackson Player of the week for a solid, consistent performance in winning contested possessions.

Sam Gray also impressed with 31 disposals and 13 clearances, while Paul Stewart is likely to play this week following a concussion in the Norwood clash.

Adelaide Crows
Crows Captain Tex Walker says they’ll need to up the ante to compete with Port Adelaide’s tall forwards, employing the skills of returning key defender Kyle Cheney to the backlines.

“Kyle Cheney, he’ll put his hand up for selection again this week,” Walker confirmed on Wednesday.

Cheney has sat out the past two weeks with a hamstring complaint following the Crows’ encounter with Collingwood in Round 2.

The skipper also flagged Kyle Hartigan, Daniel Talia and Jake Kelly as and valuable ins for the clash, to go up against the Power’s tenacious forward line.

Small defender Rory Laird is a possibility this weekend, but will await assessment following a concussion during the third quarter in the Crows’ match against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Luke Lowden and Mitch McGovern remain sidelined this week with Achilles issues, while Sam Kerridge, Sam Shaw and Riley Knight have been ruled out due to respective thigh, hamstring and ankle injuries.
