Dylan Williams booted six of Port Adelaide's seven goals against Sturt.

DESPITE going down in Sunday’s SANFL clash against Sturt, Port Adelaide had a big highlight reel, mostly thanks to six goals from Dylan Williams.

The 23rd pick in the 2019 AFL Draft has been in decent form in the forward line so far in 2021, but had a breakout game against the Double Blues, booting six of the Magpies’ seven goals.

Port Adelaide coach Matthew Lokan said Williams’s form had been building across the season.

“It's been building, Dylan's one of those guys that doesn't get a lot of disposals but can still kick goals,” he said.

“To be able to kick 6.2 off 12 disposals, he was one of the positive things to take out of Sunday’s game.”

Two of Williams’ goals came at the start of the third quarter when the game was still in the balance, and Lokan believed he gave his side a fighting chance.

“He worked really hard. I thought he almost looked like he could swing the game back our way at the start of the third quarter,” he said.

“I'm really pleased for Dyl, he's been working hard on his game, and he got some reward for effort today.”

Williams has 17 goals in 10 games this season including 11 in his last four games.

He was among a host of Port Adelaide players to play in their first league game this season after the AFL’s COVID-19 protocols prevented the club’s participation in the SANFL in 2020.
