Defender Tom Clurey is available for selection this week after recovering from a broken jaw.

THE RETURN to fitness of defender Tom Clurey will give the coaches something to think about when it comes to selection for Saturday night’s game against Hawthorn.

Clurey had been in good form prior to a relatively innocuous incident against the Western Bulldogs six weeks ago where he broke his jaw, requiring surgery.

The man who replaced him in the side, Trent McKenzie, was subbed out of the win over Sydney on the weekend after a heavy collision where he sprained a joint in his shoulder.

He will be monitored throughout the week but Clurey would be an ideal replacement if McKenzie does not get up.

Another to be assessed is forward Connor Rozee, who hurt his knee against the Swans, while Hamish Hartlett will come into selection contention if he can shake off the hip injury which caused him to pull out just before the game.

Sam Mayes – the late call-up as medical sub – might have claims for selection given his late heroics and Riley Bonner is firmly in the mix for an AFL recall after a best on ground performance at SANFL level.

Bonner had a game-high 34 disposals on a tough day at Prospect Oval. Forward Boyd Woodcock was tireless as he racked up 29 touches and five clearances in the same game playing more on the ball.

Mid-season recruit Jed McEntee showed why he was brought across from Sturt with 21 disposals, two clearances and a game-high nine tackles and ruckman/forward Peter Ladhams had a strong showing with 17 disposals, 12 hit-outs, five marks, three clearances and a goal.

Port Adelaide will name its AFL side to face Hawthorn on Thursday evening.
