Member of the Week: Tanita Scharling-Gamba
This week Tanita tells us about her favourite player Steven Salopek.
PAFC: How long have you been a Power member?
Tanita: This is my sixth year as a proud Port Adelaide member.
Where do you sit at games?
My favourite place to sit at the footy is anywhere near the action. I like to be in the thick of it all, its great fun.
Why do you love the Port Adelaide Football Club?
I love the Port Adelaide football club because they are a great club with fantastic supporters and encourage everyone to play well but have fun. Port Adelaide has been through most of our family, it started off with my Great Grandparents loving the Port Adelaide Magpies and from there it has led us to this great club.
What is your best memory at AAMI Stadium?
My best memory from AAMI Stadium would probably be when Port Adelaide beat St.Kilda by a goal which enabled them to go into the grand final. There have been so many memorable moments it’s hard to just name one.
Favourite Power moment (outside of Premiership)?
My favourite Power moment is all the AFL games that Port has played. I think we have done extremely well in our short time in the AFL and it makes me proud to be part of this great club.
Favourite player? Why?
That would have to be Steven Salopek. He is so courageous and dedicated to the club. He is extremely accurate and every time I meet him, he is so nice. I have collected every newspaper article of him since 2002.I have 4 power guernseys,2 of them have his old number of 31 and the other two have his current number of 3.
Which young player has caught your eye the most?
I think Marlon Motlop or Mitch Farmer. I have seen them both play in the SANFL and they are extremely talented.
Which player typifies the Port Adelaide Football Club best and why?
That’s a tough question, I think they all have their individual strong points and putting them all together is what makes us great.
What do you like about going to games at AAMI Stadium?
Just because of my love for Port Adelaide. The atmosphere is great and it’s just awesome fun. And to see the players in real life is pretty cool!
What could be done differently?
I dont think anything needs to change, I love it the way it is. I think its great how you keep people involved with the club and it keeps them interested.
