Dear members and supporters,

What a year 2014 promises to be. I know how many of you are itching to get into the Adelaide Oval for our first game against the Crows on March 29 and I can assure you that everyone at the club is too.

But amidst the excitement of building up to the start of our season, I’d like to bring your attention to the latest initiative with our Power to End Hunger partnership with Foodbank SA.

Since coming on board with the club in 2012, Foodbank has been an important part of our club’s community outreach through the Power to End Hunger campaign.

As you know, Foodbank provides food and welfare support to over 130,000 South Australians who find it hard to make ends meet.

We’ve had tremendous support from our campaign partners Bendigo Bank, Envestra, Transfield Services, Walker Corporation and media partners Channel 7 and The Advertiser in rolling out our last two successful Power to End Hunger campaigns and now I am excited to reveal to you the next step to help end hunger in our state.

Port Adelaide will continue to build awareness and raise significant funds for Foodbank this year through the construction of the Power to End Hunger Charity Home thanks to our 2014 campaign partners Rivergum Homes, Walker Corporation, Direct Interiors, V.I.P. Home Services, Toop and Toop, Apex Steel and our new joint major partner EnergyAustralia.

The house will be built at the new Bluestone development in Mount Barker and will be auctioned off at the end of the season.

A proceeds will go towards the Power to End Hunger campaign.

Just like our football club, the Power to End Hunger campaign needs to evolve and grow each year, that way we can engage new opportunities and partners to drive community awareness of this important issue.

It’s why we’ve been able to generate more than $300,000 for Foodbank in the last two years and provide millions of dollars of media exposure to this social issue.

It’s also helped to bring all of us into the position of understanding just what our neighbours in the community experience on a day-to-day basis as they try to provide healthy living options to their families.

I’ve seen first-hand the local schools and community organisations in remote areas that are helped by being part of the Foodbank network, the local classrooms in metropolitan SA that are being boosted by the School Breakfast Program and the value our Cans of Opportunity mini-campaign offers Foodbank thanks to the support of Bendigo Bank, IGA, Foodland and all of our supporters.

We Exist to Win Premierships and make our community proud.

What does that mean to our club? It means winning games of football and fighting to win the ultimate prizes – AFL and SANFL flags.

But making our community proud means not only instilling club pride through on-field success, but also through being a good corporate and community citizen away from it.

We are all proud at Port Adelaide to continue the Power to End Hunger campaign in 2014. We are proud to have the backing of so many like-minded corporate partners and I encourage you to get behind them as well.

The Power to End Hunger Charity Home will be built thanks to the contributions of many and I encourage you to follow the progress of its construction throughout the year.

I look forward to seeing you at the footy this season and at many of our community events throughout,

Until next time,

Keith.
