The Port Adelaide Football Club is proud to be part of a unique initiative giving supporters a chance to bid for autographed match balls, and at the same time raise awareness of men’s health.

The Power has teamed up with all of the AFL clubs in the Balls4Life program, supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Starting with Round 8, the winning team from every home and away game through the remainder of 2011 will autograph a ball used in their match.

That ball will be put up for public auction on the website www.balls4life.com.au with all proceeds awareness of prostate cancer, as well as support services for patients and their families.

The auction will begin half an hour after the siren of each game, and continue until 2.30pm (SA Time) the following Friday.

Port Adelaide captain, Domenic Cassisi, said the Power was pleased to support such an important initiative.

“Too many men die of this disease and it’s great that we can help to reduce that number,” Domenic said.

“It’s a great chance for our supporters to get their hands on a unique piece of memorabilia, and save lives in the process.”

The program has the full support of the AFL.

“Balls4Life aims to change the attitude of Australian men to improve early detection of illness,” AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou said.

Balls4Life founding director Scott Matthews said: “Men too often put the health of others before themselves. Balls4Life has been created to turn that thinking around.”

Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO Dr Anthony Lowe added: “The Balls4Life Foundation and the AFL are to be congratulated for recognising prostate cancer as an important men’s health issue, and for creating this initiative.”

“Thank you to all involved in Balls4Life, and we look forward to many Australians getting involved and bidding on a match ball,” said Dr Lowe.
