A Port Adelaide Next Generation Academy product, Nathan Barkla was picked up by Port Adelaide as a Category B rookie in the 2022 Rookie Draft. The young half-back impressed as a Woodville West-Torrens junior, averaging 20 disposals and 3.5 clearances in 12 games at the under 18 level.
Port Adelaide fans have seen glimpses of Barkla following a three-game stint for Port Adelaide’s SANFL side in 2022 after being given permission under an AFL rule granting clubs access to their Next Generation Academy players in their draft year.
Barkla was de-listed by Port Adelaide at the conclusion of the 2023 season, bringing his one-year stint with the Power to a close.
