Port Adelaide secured the signature of up-and-coming ruck Matilda Scholz during the 2023 priority signing period. A genuine ruck that possesses high athleticism and mobility, Scholz immediately showed the power of her specialist skillset - playing all ten games in her debut season and putting the league on notice with her notable abilities. A 34 hit-out performance in Round 9 and a three goal showing in Round 10 closed out a memorable start to the youngster's career. She was also awarded with a third placed-finish in the club Best and Fairest.
Averaging 13.4 disposals, 4.6 clearances and 22.2 hitouts, 2024 was a huge year for Scholz. She collected her second Rising Star nomination in Round 7 on her way to winning the award with 57 out of a possible 60 votes. The ruck was also recognised with selection in the AFLPA 22under22 team (receiving the second most votes out of all selected), won Mark of the Year, and was an All-Australian nominee. The 19-year-old’s glittering year was capped off with her maiden Port Adelaide Best and Fairest gong.
