PORT ADELAIDE has locked in another key young talent with midfielder Piper Window recommitting to the club until the end of 2027.
Selected with Port Adelaide’s first pick in the 2023 AFLW Draft, Window has made an immediate impact, playing every game in her debut season.
The hard-working ball winner spent much of the first part of the year in the forward line before increasing her midfield minutes to great effect, averaging 10 disposals, three clearances and more than six tackles per game.
Her best game was probably the week 5 win over Carlton when she kicked a goal from 16 disposals and laid five tackles.
“A lot of what Piper does on the field goes unnoticed. She has a team-first attitude and is always willing to play any role asked of her,” said List Manager Naomi Maidment.
“She trains hard and is constantly looking for ways to improve, and we saw more glimpses of her immense talent as the season progressed.
“Piper has shown significant growth as a player and as a person in a very short space of time so we are excited about what she can bring to our group as she continues to develop in coming seasons.”
From a strong footballing family, Window was a star junior, captaining the 2023 under 18 All-Australian team and being named the best and fairest player in the SANFLW competition while playing for Glenelg.
Now among a talented young core at Port Adelaide, the 19-year-old is grateful for the opportunity to remain with the club.
“I never thought I would play as many games as I have in my first season in the AFLW, but Loz (Lauren Arnell) and the coaches have been so supportive and willing to give me and other young players the chance to go out there and play our way,” Window said.
“It’s really special to be able to extend my contract and stay on at Port Adelaide for another three years. I love this club and I love what we’ve been building.
“I feel so thankful to get to train and play in an environment full of talented people and I am so excited about what we can all achieve together.”
Window’s re-signing follows the contract extensions signed earlier this season by fellow first-year players Shineah Goody and Lauren Young.
