Two of Port Adelaide’s brightest young players have recommitted to the club with Sachi Syme and Molly Brooksby each inking two-year contract extensions.

The new deals will see the duo remaining at Alberton until at least the end of 2026.

Part of the club’s inaugural list, Syme was the 23rd pick in the 2022 draft and played eight games in each of her first two seasons.

She started 2024 with a career-best 18 disposals and six clearances in the week 1 Showdown at Alberton and went on to showcase her versatility after being asked to play in defence towards the end of the year.

Still just 20, she displays a hunger for the ball and toughness of a player beyond her 29 games experience.

Brooksby was one of three Port Adelaide players nominated for the Telstra AFLW Rising Star award this year.

Playing primarily in defence she averaged 13 disposals and more than 330 metres gained per match, regularly showcasing her booming right foot and ability to read the play.

Perhaps her best performance came in Week 5 against Richmond when she had 20 disposals and 525 metres gained.

After playing every game in her debut season, she was included in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 squad and now has another two seasons to look forward to with Port Adelaide.

“We’re really pleased to have Sachi and Molly re-sign with our club for another two seasons,” said List Manager Naomi Maidment, who also coached the duo through the club’s Next Generation Academy.

“Sachi is an emerging leader in our group - a hard worker who is well respected by her teammates for the way she trains and plays, but also a great character to have around the club.

“Molly has come on in leaps and bounds this year and I often have to remind people she is still a teenager because of her maturity and the way she carries herself.

“Having seen both girls develop both as people and players during their time in the NGA and since personally brings me a lot of pride, and while they have become important players for us, they still have so much development to come.”

Syme and Brooksby have followed fellow young talent Piper Window in recommitting to the club in recent days.
